At Discovery, responsible mining is about more than producing valuable resources—it is about creating lasting
benefits for the environment, local communities, and future generations. Across our operations, we continue to
invest in projects that support environmental stewardship, enhance recreational opportunities, and strengthen the
communities where we live and work.
Creating New Fish Habitat Along the Porcupine River
One of Discovery’s most significant environmental initiatives is the development of the Off-Channel Pond Complex, a
new aquatic ecosystem connected to the Porcupine River.
As part of a Fisheries Act Authorization supporting planned construction activities at the Dome Mine site, this
project will create approximately 9.4 hectares of high-quality fish habitat designed to support spawning, rearing,
and overwintering for a variety of fish species.
The project goes beyond aquatic habitat creation. More than 1,000 native plants will be introduced throughout the
area to help establish a healthy and diverse ecosystem that will benefit wildlife and contribute to long-term
environmental sustainability.
This important initiative is being delivered in partnership with the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority, the
City of Timmins, and local First Nations communities, demonstrating the value of collaboration in achieving
meaningful environmental outcomes.
Bringing Aunor Beach Back to the Community
Discovery has also restored a cherished local destination by bringing Aunor Beach back to life.
Located on McDonald Lake, Aunor Beach was once a popular gathering place for families and outdoor enthusiasts,
however erosion over time made it unsafe for use. Work began in late 2025 to protect against further erosion,
improve public access to the site and prepare the area for reopening.
Improvements include upgrades to Aunor Mine Road, the construction of a new parking area, the development of a
walking trail, and the addition of fresh sand along the shoreline. These enhancements are designed to provide a
safe, accessible, and welcoming space for residents and visitors to enjoy.
The beach was opened for public swimming during the summer of 2026, creating a renewed recreational destination for
the Timmins community.
Reopening Access to Nighthawk Lake
Discovery has also reopened public access to Nighthawk Lake via Peninsula Road, allowing residents and visitors to
once again enjoy one of the area's scenic waterfront locations.
The site now provides access for offshore fishing and outdoor recreation, with improvements made to enhance safety
and accessibility.
As community members return to the area, Discovery encourages visitors to help maintain the site by respecting posted
guidelines and keeping the area clean and enjoyable for everyone.
Building a Sustainable Future
Together, these projects reflect Discovery’s commitment to responsible mining and sustainable development. Whether
creating new fish habitat, restoring beloved recreational spaces, or improving access to local natural areas, we are
focused on delivering long-term value beyond our operations.
By investing in environmental conservation, community partnerships, and public recreation, Discovery is helping
ensure that the benefits of our work extend well beyond the mine site and contribute to a stronger, healthier, and
more vibrant future for our communities.
